I Have Decided To Follow Jesus
Most of us know the words to the song, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. Isn’t it a miracle that before we can even utter those words aloud, or ponder them in our heart, Ephesians 1:4-8a tells us that before the creation of the world He CHOSE us!
Kate’s story is definitely a miracle story of God ordaining the days of her life to bring her to Himself. Before Kate could ever sing the words to that song, God has prepared a way to bring her to Himself. Our heavenly Father called americans to be willing to go to Belarus and put on a VBS camp in a town in southern Belarus. God gave Kate willingness to send her children to this VBS, despite the grave opposition from her husband and relatives.
Her husband took the car away, and threatened her with divorce for taking their children to the church. He got her family involved in trying to persuade her from continuing to seek after Jesus in anyway.
At the end of the VBS camp after parent’s night, she repented and trusted in Christ! She was baptized and you can see her photo. Her little son, who attended the VBS, was born disabled because of being blind in one eye. This was a hardship on the entire family, because the label of being handicapped kept him from being able to join any kind of children’s clubs or activities and made him very sad. Kate was always crying out to the Lord to take her own eyes to give to her son that he might see.
Recently, Kate took her son to the eye doctor for a regular check-up, and was stunned along with everyone else in the entire city, to discover that his sight was restored without any medical intervention! It has shaken the city, all the way to the mayor’s office! He wants to understand what is so different about Jesus, and the evangelical church, that such miracles are possible?
This miracle is the great favor of God to Kate and her son and family, that despite the hardships, despite threats, despite blindness, Kate decided to Follow Jesus. And her family followed her to Jesus as well.
